Position Overview

Retriever Integrated Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) seeks two Part-Time Mental Health Clinicians (General Associate) to provide comprehensive mental health services to undergraduate and graduate students. This position offers individual counseling, crisis intervention, and diagnostic assessment, playing a vital role in supporting student wellbeing and academic success through evidence-based clinical interventions. The positions report to the Director of Counseling Services.

 Primary Responsibilities

• Provide individual counseling and psychotherapy to undergraduate and graduate students presenting with a range of mental health concerns 
• Conduct comprehensive intake assessments and develop treatment plans tailored to student needs
• Perform diagnostic evaluations using DSM-5 criteria and evidence-based assessment tools
• Offer brief, solution-focused interventions appropriate for a short-term care model
• Exercise strong clinical judgment to determine appropriate level of care, with student health and wellbeing as the primary priority (integrated throughout clinical work)
• Make timely referrals to specialized or long-term care when clinically indicated, even within a brief therapy framework
• Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment as needed
• Maintain appropriate clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements
• Consultation and Collaboration
• Consult with campus partners including academic advisors, residence life staff, and faculty regarding student mental health concerns
• Collaborate with psychiatry services for medication management referrals when appropriate
• Participate in case consultation meetings with counseling center staff
• Coordinate care with off-campus providers when students require specialized or long- term treatment

Required Education

• Master’s degree or higher in Counseling, Psychology, or related mental health field

 Required Experience

• 4 years of experience in the provision of mental health care to adolescents and/or young adults

Licensure/ Certification Required

• Current clinical license in the state of Maryland (LCSW-C, LCPC, or psychologist)

  Required Qualifications

• Strong clinical judgment and ability to assess appropriate level of care
• Strong diagnostic and clinical assessment skills with demonstrated proficiency in DSM-5 criteria
• Experience providing mental health services to young adults, particularly in the 18-30 age range
• Knowledge of developmental issues relevant to traditional and non-traditional college students
• Ability to balance brief therapy models with clinical best practices, always prioritizing student health and safety
• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards
• Capacity to establish rapport quickly and work effectively within time-limited frameworks
• Ability to recognize when students require specialized or intensive treatment beyond brief therapy scope

• Previous experience in a college counseling center or university setting
• Experience with crisis intervention and suicide risk assessment
• Knowledge of common presenting concerns in college populations (anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, relationship concerns, academic stress)
• Training in evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, or motivational interviewing
• Cultural competency and experience working with diverse and underrepresented populations
• Ability to recognize when students require specialized or intensive treatment beyond brief therapy scope
• Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic college environment
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment

Hourly Salary Range: Minimum: $45.00 to Maximum: $55.00, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
