The Instrument Support Specialist will provide research and instructional support for the instrumentation and activities in the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics (FCSM). This person will serve primarily as a technical support person for FCSM laboratories involved in research and teaching in the areas of materials research. Responsibilities and Duties The R2 Instrument Support Specialist Materials Research is responsible for Operations, scheduling, troubleshooting, routine and preventative maintenance, sample preparation for instruments such as XRD, XRF, VSM, PPMS, SEM, AFM, and Thin Film and Device Fabrication instruments. Train students, faculty, and collaborators to prepare samples and standards, and operate core instrumentation. Participate in the development of new analytical methods and QA/QC assurance protocols for the core instrumentation. Provide technical support for materials research and contractual work. Build experience/expertise with additional instrumentation over time. The Instrument Support Specialist will function as an FCSM staff member. The chairperson of the Department of Physics, Astronomy & Geosciences will serve as the immediate supervisor. Qualifications and Skills Required:
