The Undergraduate Neuroscience Program is an interdisciplinary program that operates across departments and divisions of the Johns Hopkins University. The faculty member is expected to teach courses that will align with the program's educational mission as well as advise undergraduate Neuroscience majors. While we expect the faculty to have some autonomy in developing courses for the major, preference will be given to an individual who can teach an introductory course the Foundations of Brain, Behavior, and Cognition as part of their teaching portfolio. In addition, we are seeking candidates with experience teaching upper-level courses with a strong writing intensive component. The annual full-time teaching load for this position is 7 courses, of which advising is counted towards a course load. Additional duties include: participating as a member of the Neuroscience Program Committee for curriculum development, active participation in undergraduate events, and mentoring of undergraduates. If desired by the candidate, opportunities are available to teach a summer course to secure summer funding. The faculty member will join an existing group of Teaching track Junior and Senior lecturers in the program led by the Director of Undergraduate Studies. This position will be filled at the Junior or Senior lecturer level with a renewable contract, commensurate with the candidate's experience and current rank. A Senior Lecturer appointment requires teaching with distinction for no fewer than five years at a similar university. Criteria for promotion include excellence in teaching, educational publications, curriculum development, and pedagogical innovation. The successful candidate will receive competitive salary and benefits options including health and retirement plan participation. The start date for this position is August 1, 2021, with a phase-in of teaching duties.
