Life Science Technician II - Diehn Lab
The Diehn lab is a part of the Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI), which is one of an elite number of National Cancer Institute-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and is a prominent, dynamic, growing and complex Institute within the Stanford University School of Medicine. The SCI actively works to build synergies and collaborations among faculty with cancer-relevant expertise from four Schools and over 30 departments across Stanford University. Research in the Diehn lab is focused on the development and application of liquid biopsy methods such as circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis. Active projects span multiple tumor types and clinical contexts. Areas of interest including early detection, minimal residual disease, and treatment resistance. Our lab is seeking for a full time, 100% FTE Life Science Technician ll. The candidate will perform skilled techniques in support of lab's research goals.
Incumbent will process human samples and prepare sequencing libraries for various projects. Incumbent will run other assays as appropriate in support of other laboratory members and projects. Incumbent will learn and perform basic mouse husbandry.
Perform mathematical analysis of data. Incumbent will prepare any relevant data produced by the incumbent for publication, such as collating data in tables, documenting the methods and results sections in paper manuscripts as appropriate, and presenting applicable work in laboratory meetings.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments performed. Incumbent will keep detailed and organized electronic records of results and data analyses performed on laboratory computers and servers.
Monitor, order, and store all lab supplies. Help with lab equipment maintenance, maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
Assist with orientation and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.
Read literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and related research.
Solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism in working with colleagues (both internal and external laboratory users).
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Two years of laboratory experience or two years of college coursework in the scientific discipline a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Work at the Life Science Technician II level requires experience and ability beyond that required for the Life Science Technician I, including increased technical skills and problem-solving abilities
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand.
Ability to stand and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
Occasionally lift and handle materials up to 10 pounds Rarely carry/pull and/or push up to 20 pounds
Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job.
Position may require repetitive motion.
