About the Position:
The Assistant Building Engineer is responsible for assisting with the planning, organizing, staffing, and coordinating maintenance, repair, and general service support of the Freedom Aquatic & Fitness Center. The incumbent will apply knowledge of management principles, as well as building and grounds construction, maintenance and renovation, to perform a full range of skilled installations, maintenance, and repair tasks to include but not limited to heating, refrigeration, mechanical and electrical systems. This position will also assist with housekeeping and grounds maintenance.
Assist Building Engineer in the performance of preventive maintenance and repairs of building—mechanical, electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems and components;
Assist Building Engineer with maintenance tasks for pool, sauna, and spa including: chemical testing and adjustments, cleaning/maintaining filtration system, pool, deck, sauna, spa and related equipment and assist with training aquatic staff on preventative maintenance procedures for all aquatic equipment, as scheduled;
Perform minor grounds maintenance, to include snow removal;
Assist with the requisition of supplies through Facilities Management or outside vendors. Identify parts needed and prepare work orders and parts requests to obtain necessary supplies. Maintain miscellaneous logs and files reflecting all activities and transactions. Assist with tracking annual operating budget for supplies and repair parts;
Effectively communicate orally, in writing, and must be able to read schematic drawings and diagrams.
Maintain a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the work place as well as the special hazards that may be encountered such as biohazard, radiation, chemical, etc., and follow established procedures for dealing with such hazards. Promptly report accidents on the job, preparing and submitting accident reports. Responsible for adhering to policies, procedures and practices in safety and operational instructions. Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes;
When directed by supervisor, install new equipment according to instructions and/or written plans;
Perform other related duties as directed by your immediate supervisor.
Provide frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate, to staff.
Ensure staff has the necessary knowledge, skills, and/or abilities to accomplish goals;
Give staff opportunities to enhance knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experiences.
Meet the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation systems;
Complete evaluations by established deadlines with proper documentation;
Address and document performance issues as they occur.
Planning, Analytical Skills, and Decision Making:
Exercise good judgment and analytical skills as needed in making decisions and solving problems;
Effectively identify and address root problems, plan and coordinate projects efficiently and effectively.
High School Diploma or equivalent experience;
Valid state driver's license, CPR, first-aid, blood-borne pathogen training, pool operators certification preferred or obtainable in 90 days;
Responsible supervisory experience in HVAC systems and controls;
Substantial experience in formal preventive maintenance programs;
Specialized experience in the following areas:
Carpentry: Experience creating/modifying shelves, storage units and work stations;
Painting: Experience with painting, staining and varnishing a variety of surfaces;
Electrical: Experience replacing light fixtures, ballast, switches, and outlets;
Plumbing: Experience with faucets, drains, toilets, and drinking fountains;
General Maintenance: Experience trouble shooting and problem solving;
Pool Maintenance: Experience with filtration systems and chemicals.
Ability to lift 50 lbs;
Must have the ability to work independently, be customer service oriented and have some knowledge of methods and general procedures of mechanical, plumbing, aquatic chemical and filtration systems, HVAC systems and components;
Must possess a desire to acquire new skills and obtain additional technical qualifications and training;
Strong written and oral communication skills, knowledge and experience with electronic monitoring and energy management systems;
Knowledge of safety practices as related to the work;
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions;
Ability to perform a variety of tasks and to lift and move heavy objects;
Demonstrated ability to operate equipment, such as floor buffers.
Proficiency in Spanish.
