The Department of Medicine seeks a Nurse Practitioner to work weekends on the Inpatient Diabetes Management Service (IDMS) Unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital on a flexible basis. The Nurse Practitioner will work under the supervision of an attending physician who is a member of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine. The Nurse Practitioner will also work collaboratively with resident physicians, fellows, staff nurses, and other nurse practitioners.
The Nurse Practitioner will practice within the guidelines of the unit department and institution and in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner-Physician Written Agreement required and approved by the state of Maryland. The Nurse Practitioner will be granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins Hospital Medical Board; these privileges list specific tasks and are reviewed annually.
The Nurse Practitioner will participate in training and evaluation led by the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism, and meet internal training guidelines prior to treating patients. Will round daily to report progress of specific patients and help to develop care plans for patients who are receiving consultative care by the IDMS. The Nurse Practitioner will educate patients and families regarding the nature of their clinical problems, prognoses, and options for continued care.
Master's degree in nursing; Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be licensed as NP in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Additional experience may substitute for master's degree. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in diabetes management preferred.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary to provide information to patients and health care personnel.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to work well as a member of a health care team with a high degree of self-motivation. General computer knowledge and ability to use computerized medical information systems.
Must be able to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.
Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.
