Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
In collaboration with Dr. Jennifer Coughlin and other leaders of the Brain Health Program (BHP), as well as collaborating Principal Investigators at Johns Hopkins, the Sr. Research Program Coordinator will set the direction and operationalize the multiple brain imaging projects across the BHP and will have overall managerial responsibilities for brain imaging projects across multiple Principal Investigators.
Specific duties & responsibilities:
The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will be involved in scientific discussions with collaborators, Principal Investigators, and funding organizations to support project planning.
Coordinate day-to-day operations of imaging studies within the BHP. Write study protocols and develop regulatory strategies/SOPs that build on existing templates and workflow for brain imaging protocols (documentation checklists, implementation workflows). Monitor progress and the well-managed implementation of human subject brain imaging research within the BHP.
Coordinate with internal imaging BHP staff and Information Technology department staff for troubleshooting of data management systems and BHP hardware/software as needed
Responsible for escalating functional, quality and timeline issues appropriately to leadership within the BHP.
Responsible for tracking proposals and other documentation through signature/approval processes then through collaboration with Contracts personnel, IRB Navigators, and the key personnel managing INDs held by physician sponsors in the Dept. of Nuclear Medicine.
Assist in the auditing and monitoring of imaging studies, particularly those involving positron emission tomography (PET) imaging across BHP investigators.
The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will also guide study teams within the BHPin preparing new grant applications (research aims, study design, budgets), IRB protocol applications/changes in research, grant progress reports, and annual IRB continuing reviews. Also disseminate recommended monitoring strategies across BHP Principal Investigators and their teams to ensure uniformity in written protocol appearance, implementation, and regulatory workflow of imaging protocols across the BHP. Work with other study coordinators to support overall study implementation as needed.
Since many protocols involve use of radiotracers for imaging with PET, the Sr. Research Program Coordinator will prepare documents for investigational new drug (IND) annual reports that are requested by the IND physician sponsors in the Department of Nuclear Medicine.
Conduct training and refresher training for data collection staff. This includes oversight of project compliance with human subjects' regulations at JHU.
Oversee 3-5 research assistants and 1-2 clinical research fellows, as needed.
Organize and manage original data files/databases for research documentation and analyses. Monitor and conduct regular quality control checks of data collection, documentation, and storage.
Collaborate with financial staff in the review, processing, and reconciling of invoices and reimbursements. Assist with placing BHP orders for lab/research equipment and supplies as needed.
The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will work with site investigators to help them meet targets and milestones (ensure timely and accurate submission to IRBs and sponsors) on-time and within the budget. This may include the coordination of public outreach, public presentations, web site development and targeted advertising content to facilitate adequate human participant recruitment and enrollment across imaging studies.
Occasionally mentor/supervise rotating trainees and students interested in short term collaborations on a study.
Coordinate and contribute to research manuscripts.
Organize meetings, conferences, and seminars.
Expected to stay current with constantly changing clinical research technology available within and outside the institution, and embrace the adoption of innovations to modernize, disseminate, renovate, and remodel.
Knowledgeable liaison between the BHP, institutional media relations and communications staff, and the community - toward establishing effective pipelines for dissemination of research findings using web and social media platforms to augment dissemination through traditional scholarly manuscripts.
Perform miscellaneous-related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 3 years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
5 years related experience.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Ability to make independent judgments and to act on decisions on a daily basis.
Ability to work for long periods of time without direction.
Ability to prioritize own work and work of others as needed.
Highly efficient computer skills required (e.g. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Experience working with IT staff, social media, and online database (such as RedCap) development and maintenance.
Experience working with a statistical software package (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA), including demonstrated competency in manipulating variables imported from database data storage for sharing with team statisticians and running simple reports for progress reports and manuscript preparation.
Ability to work with flexibility and comfort on several tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Effectively prioritize managing multiple projects while setting and meeting various concurrent deadlines.
Excellent organizational skills, analytical and problem solving abilities, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement research projects both independently and as part of a team of dedicated professionals.
Will sometimes facilitate and coordinate collaborative research work of teams in other institutions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
Project/system process lifecycle experience, through history of direct project management.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to negotiate and work collaboratively; service-oriented; knowledge of formal project management methodologies; experience in a higher education environment.
