The University of Michigan, School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking a highly-motivated individual to join our research team as a Data Analyst. This individual will have responsibilities including research data management, processing and interrogation of large datasets such as health, biosocial, and economic data using a variety of statistical software packages such as SAS, R or Stata, and executing statistical analyses/code under the direction of our PhD statisticians and quantitative scientists. Essential duties include using SAS/Stata/R or other relevant software to create analytic files by merging multiple large databases, formatting, recoding and sub setting data as needed, and statistical expertise at the Master’s level. Web-based survey/database design and management (ex. REDCap, SQL) is desired.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create, manage, manipulate and analyze large health data using statistical software.
Create and manage data collection tools (ex. REDCap, SQL) for prospective research studies.
Develop/execute statistical analyses that address specified research questions and aims.
Develop/execute sample size justifications (ex. power or precision analysis) for grant applications
Participate in preparing text, tables, and data visualizations for publications and grant applications.

Supervision is received from the Director of the School of Nursing Applied Statistics Laboratory/Data Management Core.
Education and Experience:
A Master’s degree in applied mathematics, statistics, health informatics, applied economics or related field is required.
Minimum of two (2) years of programming, data management and/or analytics experience.
Demonstrated expertise in managing large and complex datasets (healthcare data preferred).
Demonstrated experience in using statistical packages like SAS, R and Stata to manage data.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience using statistical software to analyze research data.
Knowledge of RDBMS/SQL relational databases as well as non-relational databases.
Experience with national health survey data and complex survey design methods.
Experience with REDCap or other web-based data collection tools preferred
Candidate must have excellent communication skills, with the ability to receive and convey information clearly and concisely for various mediums.
Excellent computer skills, including expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint.
Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
Proven analytical skills and follow-through; a high degree of creativity, initiative, resourcefulness, and the ability to anticipate needs.
Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.
Excellent problem solving capability; exceptional critical thinking, analytical and research skills.
Able to work independently with minimal supervision and maximum collaboration in a team environment.
