The Peabody Children's Chorus seeks applications for a part-time Assistant Director to work with our Training Choir and Choristers ensembles (ages 6-12), beginning in the 2021/22 season.
Established in 1990, the Chorus has grown from 30 to over 450 singers in nine rehearsing ensembles and four preparatory classes at two campuses. Students at both campuses study the same repertoire and follow the same curriculum. As well as touring in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, England, Scotland, and Hawaii, the chorus has performed with many local ensembles, including the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Concert Artists of Baltimore, and Lyric Opera. The Peabody Children's Chorus values the highest artistic standards in all dimensions of our program, including choice of repertoire, tone of concerts, choral sound, musicology, and performance practice.

We are searching for a teacher who will nurture each chorister's potential for artistic and personal excellence, and who will foster a love of music through skill-based learning.
Artistic & Teaching Responsibilities
Under the leadership of and in collaboration with the Director, the Assistant Director will:
co-teach or teach independently six weekly rehearsals (three evenings per week)
help to plan, implement and evaluate the artistic year and educational program for the Training Choir and Choristers ensembles
assist in selecting repertoire of high musical quality and educational value that is age-appropriate for each ensemble
supervise work done by accompanists and student interns
rehearse with guest musicians when appropriate
collaborate artistically & develop relationships with other community and professional musical organizations
The Assistant Director will work with Chorus faculty and staff to:
plan and implement end-of-semester concerts and external performances
assist with recruitment, evaluations, and auditions for new and continuing students
track student progress and assist with annual placement decisions and progress reports; write recommendations for students upon request
hold orientations for new students and their parents
conducting and teaching experience; some piano proficiency is desirable
exceptional conductor and vocal pedagogue with working knowledge of movable-do solfÃ¨ge and languages. Demonstrates a dynamic understanding of the young voice, age 6-12, as well as age-appropriate repertoire that engages and challenges choristers
Available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30-7:30 pm
Bachelor of Arts (required) in music from an accredited institution
