The Paint Shop Supervisor provides administrative and technical supervision of the general and daily operations of the Paint Shop and other furnishing and finishes such as window blinds, coordinate & oversee glass repairs & replacements, install small sections of drywall as needed, and other interior wall and ceiling finishes.
Plans, organizes, assigns, and reviews the technical maintenance work and installation services rendered by unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers assigned to perform paint trade work and other wall and ceiling finish trade work individually and in teams.
Recommends and oversees internal operating procedures.
Supervises and trains assigned personnel. Performs on-the-job training and participates in performance management process. Troubleshoots any problems that arise, and acts accordingly. Plans/schedules working shifts for personnel, performs performance reviews for direct reports.
Reviews work orders; determines work priority and makes appropriate personnel assignments; makes recommendations regarding work that falls outside the scope of the shop and suggests alternatives for timely and appropriate completion. Utilizes & becomes proficient with the Facilities Management work management software program that tracks tasks & projects and captures the labor & materials associated with each project.
Performs estimates of time, labor, and materials to be used on assigned projects. Prepares contractual specifications for construction, renovation, or overhaul work to be done by outside contractors. Ensures adequate supplies, materials, and equipment are maintained for area; initiates and/or prepares documentation related to purchase transactions; recommends and supervises vendors; oversees the ordering process.
Assists in budget projections, budget preparation and departmental planning for area of responsibility.
Prepares a variety of special and recurring reports and analyses reflecting daily operations and project status.
Inspects completed job assignments for adherence to campus, trade and shop standards and contract specifications. Performs safety inspections for shop and work site areas and ensures compliance to safety, sanitary, and security regulations.
Operates and ensures operational readiness and safety of the tools and equipment of the trade. Repairs and/or directs the repair of machinery and equipment using hand and power tools, precision measuring devices and testing instruments.
This position is a working supervisor and may perform duties of paint shop personnel. Paint Shop Personnel duties include but are not limited to preparing surfaces for painting using all customary methods, filling nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk or putty, taping, spackling, and finishing, repairing or replacing dry wall, applying coats of paint, other standard coatings and wall coverings, removing fixtures, covering surfaces to protect during painting, cleaning area upon completion of project and providing guidance and training in painting work to other maintenance personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a High School Diploma/GED and seven (7) years progressively responsible experience in the building painting trade or shop.
Must have at least four (4) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Must posses a valid Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license.
Preferred consideration will be given to candidates with experience managing a Paint, Architectural Trades or Small Projects Shop at a university or institutional campus setting.

Pay Range 13 (starting at $49,503) based on the University System of Maryland Pay Program
