Communications and Events Specialist
The George Mason University College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) invites applications for a Communications and Events Specialist who can provide administrative support for CEHD's School of Sport, Recreation, and Tourism Management (SRTM) and its Director. SRTM offers undergraduate specializations in sport management, recreation management, and tourism management, as well as a graduate program. It is based at the Fairfax campus. Responsibilities: This position is designed to be the primary administrative point of contact for SRTM. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide administrative support to Academic Program Coordinators (APCs), advising staff, and the SRTM Director;
Serve as the customer support specialist and first point of contact for SRTM;
Provide support to APCs and the SRTM Curriculum Committee for course and program of study modifications, accreditation efforts, and catalog changes;
Back-up the Purchasing and Administrative Coordinator as needed;
Coordinate the ordering of textbooks and desk copies for SRTM faculty, and distribute course evaluation packets when needed;
Provide administrative assistance to the SRTM academic advising staff;
Provide administrative support for SRTM program assessment and accreditation projects;
Support SRTM strategic and tactical initiatives, including working groups and events;
Serve in a stand-by capacity to support administration of SRTM as needed.
Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) and experience coordinating administrative tasks in an office setting are required. Candidates must have effective communication and organizational skills and experience with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint). Candidates must also have the ability to work with a team and to take proactive responsibility for coordinating the administrative aspects of the team's academic activities.
Preferred Qualifications: A Master's degree is preferred. Experience with systems specific to Mason, such as Banner, Blackboard, E-VA, CIM, and EPAF, would also be an asset.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
