Georgetown University - Qatar (GU-Q) is pleased to announce it is accepting applications for the position of Director of the Library.
The Director of the Library will lead and manage the development and operations of the library, with responsibility for staff, collections, services, systems, facilities, and budgets to support the mission and goals of the GU-Q campus. The Director will formulate an innovative strategic direction for the library in providing resources and services for faculty and students, and will liaise with the main campus libraries to ensure access to such resources and services. The Director should be aware of current and emerging trends in academic libraries, and in academic research and scholarly publishing. The Director's key responsibilities include gathering and analyzing information about GU-Q's research impact using bibliometrics, and other relevant tools, and organizing external outreach and professional development activities in support of the local library community. Other key activities include: advising GU-Q faculty and departments on the preservation and storage of physical and digital archive materials; acting as a key member of academic and operations committees; and managing the implementation, development, operation, and use of the library's integrated software system and technical infrastructure.
Master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited program or equivalent accreditation body. Additional graduate degree in one of the disciplines taught by GU-Q is preferred.
7+ years of supervisory/managerial experience in an academic library setting with a record of progressively responsible decision-making.
Must be fully conversant with library systems and information technologies.
Knowledge of emerging technologies in an academic learning and research environment.
Demonstrated record of establishing and facilitating collaborative relationships and working with diverse cultures.
Demonstrated record of developing student-centered library programs, services and spaces.
Demonstrated record of participation and accomplishment within the library profession.
Experience supporting academic research, and with research data management.
Understanding of digital social sciences and digital humanities initiatives.
Arabic language proficiency would be an asset.
