University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant to join Department of Microbiology and Immunology. The Pedra Lab has gone through substantial growth changes over the past year. A Lab Research Assistant is needed to assist researchers in ongoing experiments including molecular biology, biochemistry; perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: general housekeeping, ELISA assays, preparing solutions, media, stains, and buffers; cultures and specimens; executing biochemical procedures such as: electrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, and DNA extractions, etc; and genotype the mouse colonies.

Perform laboratory research activities, including animal handling, mouse genotyping
Assist researchers in ongoing experiments including molecular biology, biochemistry
Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: general housekeeping, ELISA assays, preparing solutions, media, stains, and buffers; cultures and specimens; executing biochemical procedures such as: electrophoresis, blotting, chromatography, and DNA extractions, etc.
May perform laboratory research activities such as: microscopy techniques, imaging techniques, recombinant DNA techniques, protein purification, and hybridizations, etc. May participate in the design of research studies.
Compile and may analyze research data using various relevant computer software applications.
Assist with literature research, editing and preparing manuscripts, scientific illustrations and computer graphics for publication.
Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory. EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in laboratory environment preferred. Consideration may be given for a uniquecombination of education and biology or chemistry experience.
Hiring Range: Commensurate with education and experience (Low to mid $40K)
