LIVE Course Developers’ primary responsibility is to organize and write, in keeping with CTY guidelines, standardized lesson plans for synchronous class sessions and asynchronous activities and assignments for a LIVE course.
In CTY LIVE (live, interactive, virtual exploration) courses, students complete approximately 36 hours of academic work, including participating in synchronous class sessions and completing asynchronous activities and assignments. LIVE courses allow students to sample exciting content while fostering some of the connectivity and relationship building that makes a CTY on-site learning experience so unique. LIVE synchronous course sessions are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 AM, 12 PM, 3 PM, and 9 PM. All times are Eastern.
Course Developers will work with provided templates to bring their LIVE course in alignment with CTY’s standards and guidelines, as applicable.
The courses will be for students in grades 2-12 in the following areas:

Supervision: Course developers are supervised by a full-time CTY staff member.
Produce a complete curriculum for a CTY LIVE course in your area of expertise (36 contact hours) for academically talented students as specified in the course development guidelines provided by your supervisor. The deadline for completion is 70 days from hire date.
Produce a complete, standardized version of your course that follows the format provided by your supervisor and that includes all information a new instructor would need to teach your course successfully including, but not limited to:
clearly stated course goals and objectives, along with your course’s essential questions;
a robust course syllabus detailing all topics covered during the 9-unit session;
specific guidelines for each synchronous and asynchronous lesson plans, in the format provided by your supervisor;
Lesson modules, including instructor-facing annotations for all materials on Moodle and Office 365, covering all synchronous and asynchronous class sessions;
rubrics and other authentic assessment tools for evaluating student process and products.
In Moodle and/or Teams, build all curated materials necessary for your course including mini-lessons, exercises, readings, videos, etc., that student must do asynchronously by themselves or in small groups to meet your course’s goals and objectives

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university is required.
At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience is required.
Additional (graduate) education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Master’s degree is preferred.
At least two years of teaching or tutoring experience working specifically with elementary, middle, or high school students.
Experience teaching in CTY L.I.V.E., Online, or Summer Programs is strongly preferred.
Required Special Skills and Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of course(s) and exam content for applicable grades
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Positive, proactive, and professional written and spoken communication skills using various technology is critical.
Must be very student-oriented.
Ability to prepare lesson plans and audio-visual aids per the agreed-upon course syllabus.
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
Maturity, responsibility, and creativity
Physical Requirements for the Job:
Ability to access and transmit information using a computer;
Ability to communicate regularly via telephone or video conferencing software and email with internal and external audiences. Must be able to exchange accurate and timely information in these settings
Significant degree of independent action and decision making required
Must provide own laptop computer for use with appropriate software to complete assignments (Microsoft Office)
Must have access to broadband internet.
