Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
We are looking for a highly motivated, energetic individual with strong focus and attention to detail to join a group of researchers at the Institute for Global Tobacco Control, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The Research Assistant will to provide a range of research support for projects based in low- and middle-income countries, aiming to reduce tobacco-caused death and disease.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the faculty and project leads, the Research Assistant’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct literature searches and reviews.
Assist with planning for data collection, entry and management, and protocol strengthening.
Assist with preparing data collection training materials.
Review data for accuracy and completeness.
Assist with data cleaning and data quality review and control, including database management.
Assist with data coding and data analysis.
Maintain and organize study files.
Effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
Participate in team and one-on-one meetings.
Assist with manuscript submission to journals including collating and organizing data; preparing tables, figures, and references; and formatting manuscripts for submission.
Support gathering information for fact sheets, posters, papers, and other dissemination materials.
Provide research teams with overall administrative and logistical support.
Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in related discipline required. Some related experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Experience using data collection apps or software.
Experience with data entry tools and working with quantitative and/or qualitative data sets.
Experience using statistical software and/or qualitative data analysis software.
Tobacco control-related knowledge and experience.
Fluent in Hindi, Bangla, Urdu, Bahasa Indonesia, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Russian, or Ukrainian

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
