The Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI) is a center within the Department of Population, Family and Reproduction Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Research Program Manager will support excellence in Center strategy, development, communications, management and operations in the context of the Center’s innovative projects to build knowledge, data and innovative tools and interventions that advance evidence-based policies and practices in health, social and educational settings to promote healthy child development and improve health outcomes for all children, youth and families in the United States and beyond.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience conceptualizing, operationalizing and conducting applied qualitative and stakeholder-based implementation and translational research, with a focus on translation to policy and practice in maternal and child health (MCH) or related field. They will have superior writing and communication skills essential to the effective implementation and translation of innovations and research. They will have experience with the conceptualization and implementation of secondary data analysis using surveys such as the National Survey of Children’s Health; as well as conducting literature and environmental scans and reports. Candidates will have demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating stakeholder and advisory committees in partnership with leadership. Especially critical are excellent skills in formulating and implementing project work plans and processes to drive the completion of these plans. All work is done in a close, dynamic and small team context with many changing priorities and deadlines due to the fluidity of our stakeholder-based research model and funding the limits operational resources. Experience in the development of project progress reports and grant proposals and written journal publications is expected. Candidates must be comfortable effectively engaging stakeholders to formulate shared goals and consensus around both conceptual and technical issues, such as measurement and communications methods. This engagement also includes establishing contracts, scopes of work, and monitoring work and project progress and invoicing of experts and consultants. Interest and ability to contribute to the development of new projects and passion for improving the health and wellbeing of all children, youth and families is essential.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Project Planning and Management: The RPM will work with the project PI and partners to create detailed project and activity work plans and the execution and/or management of core tasks across team members (including external partners/contractors and student workers) and within time and resource constraints. Excellent conceptualization, written, team work and communication skills are essential. The RPM will continuously monitor progress on project activities to ensure progress and timely achievement of project goals and outcomes and funding agency requirements. The RPM will draft and coordinate amongst the team the required grant reporting materials and will ensure timely submission of required reports by funding agencies.
Application of MCH Epidemiology, Program and Policy Knowledge. The RPM will hold sufficient knowledge of MCH epidemiology, data analysis and MCH program and policy knowledge to immediately contribute to the design and completion of research papers, data dissemination using IT platforms and field engagement toolkits and educational webinars related to topics ranging from: (1) using the National Survey of Children’s Health and understanding CAHMI’s extensive accompanying wraparound materials, (2) co-developing models, tools and resources for transforming MCH services and primary care to translate research and science of preventing, mitigating impacts of and healing from developmental trauma, (3) optimizing state and local area use of existing data and MCH measures. Candidate knowledge of national frameworks such as the Culture of Health and Strengthening Families models will be helpful, and (4) using best practices and implementation and dissemination research to scale and implement engagement-based models of care. Demonstrated ability and eagerness to grow MCH epidemiology, program and policy knowledge is required.
Stakeholder Engagement and Partner Collaboration: Experience in methods for successfully engaging stakeholders in co-development, learning and Delphi and consensus processes is expected. The RPM will monitor and manage the work plans and deliverables of stakeholders, including expert consultants and contractors, as well as advisors and leaders from the field. This will include drafting scopes of work, executing contracts, and monitoring invoicing to match deliverables. The RPM will participate in CAHMI’s Research Networks, including creating standards of operation and procedures, interfacing with members, establishing and facilitating working meetings, and ensuring progress on Research Network goals.
Dissemination and Reporting of Key Findings from Specific Projects: Collaborate to plan, conceptualize and develop data issue briefs, papers, chartbooks, and methods reports to inform and support MCH programs, health systems, providers, and families to understand and improve health services and outcomes. This work involves verifying data, double-checking findings, writing/editing for a variety of audiences (e.g. policymakers, local program planners without statistical background) and literature reviews. Knowledge of best practices around social media, newsletter dissemination, contacts management services, tracking and analytics, and webinars is also required. The RPM will serve as point person for the team’s efforts related to material and information dissemination through various channels as well as monitoring for impact.
Center Strategy, Development and Operations: Lead with other staff in work to ensure the effective and timely hiring, training and supervision of staff, students and contractors, assist in budgeting scenario analysis, decision making and confirm accuracy of budget reports; coach and ensure with others excellence in Center communications via websites, newsletters and social media and ensuring IRB processes and standard operating procedures and related documentation of work is conducting on an ongoing basis to ensure sustainability and meeting standards of JHU and funders. Partner in the creation of new collaborations and funding developments to further advance the work of the CAHMI. Write grant proposals and prepare, manage, track submissions, and ensure all necessary documentation, guidelines, and protocols are followed.
Supervision: Supervise team staff and student interns.
Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
5 years related experience. Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
Master's degree in related discipline (in public health, biostatistics, public administration, or related field) preferred.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula:

Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and be proactively responsible and accountable to define and confirm work, and to effectively prioritize managing multiple projects while setting and meeting self-set and agreed upon deadlines.
Knowledge of programs, policies, and data sources related to child, youth and family health, or early childhood development.
Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods for assessing health and engaging the MCH population/workforce. Experience with implementation and dissemination research preferred.
Ability to think strategically and creatively, and also take on perspective, needs and requirements for partners and stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with a wide variety of audiences, including written communication, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at national conferences.
Experience working with a statistical software package (e.g. SPSS, SAS, STATA), including demonstrated competency in constructing, testing and manipulating variables.
Demonstrated supervisory responsibilities.
Knowledge of communication and outreach methods, including social media, newsletters, contact management services, and webinars. Experience updating website content and monitoring website analytics.
Understanding of grant writing and the grant submission process.
Preferred experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Sitefinity content management system
Preferred experience with IT-based data dissemination and patient-engagement platforms.
Preferred experience working with pediatric practices, health plans, or federal/state/local MCH programs.
This position will include some routine extended work hours, such as travel to conferences and meetings and meeting project and funder deadlines.
