This position is responsible for working with a target population of college students to support and enhance their success in college. The college success coach will assist students in the target population in developing individualized academic plans, applying for financial aid and scholarships, identifying academic needs and linking to tutoring or other learning support resources, visiting student development course (SDV) classes, and providing follow-up when risk factors such as poor attendance or low grades are evident. This position is a grant restricted position by a VCCS Tuition Differential Grant and funding is decided year to year. Coaching and counseling-Assess skills, needs, interests, and aptitudes of target student population and provide personalized support and counseling on college success. Assist target students with developing individualized academic plans, applying for financial aid and scholarships, identifying academic needs and linking to tutoring or other learning support resources, visiting and or teaching student development course (SDV) classes, and providing follow-up when risk factors such as poor attendance or low grades are evident. The use of EAB Navigate and academic alert system will be used daily to track students. Reporting, controlling, budget, planning, and evaluating program activities-Provide well-written and thoroughly researched reports, which include: collecting and analyzing appropriate data, controlling budget, planning, and evaluating program activities. Securing college or training admissions and needed support services-Assist target student population with enrollment in training programs preparing for high demand regional industry sectors, or for transfer to a senior institution. Assist students in securing college or training program admissions and acquiring needed support services in order for student success in obtaining a Career Readiness Certificate and/or completing a college program such as the General Education Certificate. Great Expectations and Single Stop-Assist target student population with enrollment in academic programs preparing for regional industry sectors, or for transfer to a senior institution. Assist students in securing college or training program admissions and acquiring needed support services in order for student success. Participate in Recruitment Activities and outreach events to recruit participants. Assist students with Single Stop, an online screening tool that can estimate in minutes what supplemental resources students might be eligible to receive such as housing, childcare, health insurance, finances, and all kinds of issues can create barriers for students trying to complete their academic programs and graduate. Will partner with local agencies to provide a wider array of student services so that students can stay focused on their academic goals. Effective resolution of student issues and other duties as assigned.
The college success coach must have knowledge and experience in the following areas: A baccalaureate degree; Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students Ability to develop individualized academic plans with students that will lead to program completion Knowledge of and links to financial aid and scholarship information available through the college Academic and career counseling skills Effective problem-solving skills Knowledge of specific needs of underserved populations in order to attain educational success Ability to work with students with identified risk factors for academic success Ability to work with college faculty and staff in support of student success Strong communication skills Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and social media Strong presentation and facilitation skills Applicants must possess a current driver's license and the ability to provide their own transportation to meet with students in various college locations throughout the service region, as necessary to perform job responsibilities.
