There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the stateâs capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year. SVCC is currently seeking applicants for a program head for our Practical Nursing Program. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency. The Program serves over 50 students in multiple locations: Including South Boston, Chase City, and Alberta. There are two full-time nursing faculty along with approximately five adjunct nursing faculty. We offer a SimLab for our students and work very closely with local hospitals. The Program Head participates in the selection and admission of students, the clinical placement and management of students, supports and mentors all nursing faculty, plans, evaluates, and changes the curriculum, and is responsible for the Virginia Board of Nursing approval of the program. Other duties include student advising, working with external agencies and facilities, serving on committees, participating in professional activities, program assessment, and management of the program within the guidelines of the Virginia Board of Nursing. Faculty are required to teach a minimum of 15 credits per fall and spring semester. This position will also have some of the 30 credit faculty load re-assigned to accommodate the administrative tasks necessary to direct the program. This is a multi-campus position and the main office location will be determined with consideration of the chosen candidateâs preference.

Established in 1970, SVCC is one of the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. The Christanna Campus near Alberta and the John H. Daniel Campus near Keysville serve ten counties and one city - the largest community college service region in the state. In 1985, SVCC opened the Southside Virginia Education Center. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate degrees. SVCC is dedicated to the belief that all citizens should be given an opportunity to acquire an educational foundation which develops and extends their skills and knowledge.
