Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Research Program Manager will manage activities for the Communities Leveraging Evidence for Action and Resources (CLEAR) project, an applied set of community research projects that aim to identify strengths and assets and understand health, social, and service needs of transgender and non-binary individuals living in and around Baltimore. These studies are operated in partnership with the Maryland Department of Health to assess prevalence and trends in HIV, health and risk behaviors, service utilization, and related social determinants in order to inform local and national programs and policies. The ideal candidate has a high level of responsibility and independence, experience working with transgender and non-binary people, in community based behavioral data collection; is knowledgeable about transgender health, HIV, and/or related social and health issues; and is able to interact with and effectively supervise diverse populations in a highly professional, compassionate, confident, and knowledgeable manner. The position includes a combination of administrative, program management, and scholarly activities.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day project implementation of biobehavioral survey and qualitative research: planning/preparation, data collection, data analysis and communication of results, IRB, participant referrals, budgeting, and compliance with relevant protocols and confidentiality requirements
Oversee hiring, training, supervision, management, and evaluation of project staff
Address and mediate conflicts through a trauma-informed lens
Monitor and manage study progress (including tracking project-related work, providing staff support, and troubleshooting and resolving problems)
Prepare materials for reports and manuscripts
Coordinate project related meetings
Facilitate communications among members of the project team and project stakeholders
Foster relationships with community stakeholders and partners and facilitate community access to study results
Manage project administrative details
Other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelor's degree in related discipline (e.g., public health or behavioral science).
5 years related experience.
Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities.
Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative methods and analysis approaches.
Demonstrated applied research skills.
Demonstrated management experience.
Ability to interact sensitively, effectively, and professionally with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational backgrounds, and life experiences.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Related Master's preferred.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prefer certified in HIV Counseling and Testing or willingess to complete.
Maryland driver’s license.
Familiarity with and enthusiasm for enhancing transgender health resources and services. Experience working with marginalized and diverse populations.
Interest or knowledge of transgender health, harm reduction, social determinants, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive approaches.
Strong project management skills and ability to manage complex workload.
Experience managing/coordinating outreach or community-based research studies or programs
Supporting the development of operating procedures, work plans, initiatives, programs or projects
Advising and mentoring diverse staff and/or students
Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships with diverse groups
Experience in programs designed to understand or address health disparities
Quantitative and/or qualitative data skills and knowledge of research methods.
Sharp attention to detail and capacity to deliver quality work product within the required deadline.
Self-starter and ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Proficiency with remote work collaborative technology (Zoom, MS Office 365, DropBox).
Up to 10 full time and/or casual staff, varies depending on stage of data collection.
