We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to work in a clinical translational laboratory at the Wilmer Eye Institute with focus on retinal vascular disease. The individual will work with a dynamic and multidisciplinary research group consisting of a broad array of individuals at multiple levels of training. The position will require on-the-job training as well as travel to local research sites for ongoing multicenter studies. The research topics encompass a range of methods to study retinal disorders that impact the structure and function of the retinal vasculature. We aim to develop new methods of diagnosis and treatment using state-of-the-art imaging techniques and treatment modalities. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with graduate level training in one or more of the following fields: Neurosciences, Visual Physiology, Ophthalmology, Adaptive Optics, Optical Coherence Tomography, Image Analysis, Clinical Research, Biomedical Engineering or related fields. This candidate should be capable of independently learning new analytical techniques and has significant expertise in one or more of the following areas: research protocol development and writing, IRB submissions, biostatistics, data analysis, human subject recruitment, retinal imaging (OCT, OCTA, Fundus photography, ERG etc), refraction, visual acuity assessment and familiarity with research administration. This position may include assisting with experimental retinal surgery in animal models including in vivo ocular imaging and visual function testing of animals. The ideal candidate will have one or more peer-reviewed publications and will be involved in preparation of documents, manuscripts and proposals for the principal investigator as well as the research team
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement complex research protocols to address research questions
Make significant important contributions to the group's research, analyze data and prepare graphs/ charts, including statistics.
Contributes substantially to manuscripts, reports, and document preparation.
Organize and present data to PI and colleagues by verbal and written means on a regular basis
Present information to the team in Journal Club and lab meetings
Perform diagnostic imaging for research studies including fundus photography, OCT, OCTA, ERG etc
Perform baseline ocular assessments including visual acuity and medical history.
Develop detailed imaging protocols for lab use
3. IRB protocol development, submission and management
Prepare, edit and revision of IRB applications
Preparation and submission of IRB amendments and updates
Maintenance of IRB applications in good standing
4. Human Subjects Recruitment
Assist with identification and recruitment of human subjects from clinical populations
Maintain organized database and records of research subjects
Education: Graduate degree or equivalent experience in biological, engineering, public health or medical sciences
Licensure, Certification, Registration: PhD or equivalent required
Experience: Related graduate work experience is preferred. Previous lab experience, especially with retinal imaging and human subjects research is highly desired.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency with PC/ Mac is required, including MS Word, Excel, as is an excellent math aptitude. Statistical analysis, preparing charts, scientific writing, record keeping, reference management software (e.g. Endnote), charting software (e.g. Graphpad Prism) oral presentation, (e.g. PowerPoint)
