Lecturer - Disability Studies - College of Letters & Science
The Disability Studies program at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach Disability Studies courses should an opening arise. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. Positions may range from 17% to 100%.
The Disability Studies minor centers the knowledge and experience of disabled people, studying cultural and artistic productions, public laws and policies, professional practices, and everyday life with an emphasis on disability as a social situation and a political process. Our approach is interdisciplinary, aiming to integrate the study of disability into academic fields across the campus; it is intersectional; and it makes and draws on long-standing connections between scholarship and activism, locally and globally.
Teaching a Disability Studies course includes holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, and preparing course materials.
Due to COVID 19, UC Berkeley began the academic year with fully remote instruction. Depending on public health conditions, the need for remote education and virtual classrooms may continue. Instructors must have internet access and be prepared to adjust pedagogical approaches to develop asynchronous instructional materials, foster student-to-student interaction, and reimagine assignments and exams for a remote format.
Basic qualifications (at time of application): must have an advanced degree or be enrolled in an advanced degree program at the time of application.
Additional qualifications (by start date): Completion of Master's degree or an equivalent international degree. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent international degree, and experience working with a diverse student population is preferred. College-level teaching experience in disability studies is preferred. Knowledge of accessible technologies and universal design in instruction is preferred.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed for department needs through September 21, 2021. Applications are typically considered in April and May for fall course needs, in September and October for spring course needs, and February and March for summer course needs. The pool will close September 21, 2021; applicants wishing to remain in the pool after that time will need to submit a new application.
