UMBC 9-Month Visiting Lecturer Position: Graphic Design, Department of Visual Arts
The Department of Visual Arts at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is searching for a one-year visiting lecturer in screen-based communication to support its BFA in Design with a concentration in Graphic Design. Specifically, we seek applications from candidates who demonstrate an understanding of screen-based communications and how graphic design's critical, historical, and theoretical aspects, as well as the evolution of traditional approaches, apply. The ideal candidate will contribute their expertise to these content areas: web design, UI/UX design, and other emergent technologies that are created by graphic design professionals, as demonstrated by their portfolio.
Teach three studio courses per semester in the following areas: web design and or application interface design (UX/UI).
Salary commensurate with experience
Successful candidates must possess:
Knowledge of the critical, historical and theoretical aspects of graphic design as it relates to screen-based design;
Expertise in theories and tools of interactive design or web design;
Thorough understanding of industry-standard software and fluency in macOS/iOS;
Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
A collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues.
Preference is given to candidates with one or more of the following qualifications:
MFA or equivalent in Graphic Design or related visual communications field or the equivalent professional experience with documentation of at least 5 years of practice in web design, UI/UX design, or a related design field;
Expertise in HTML and CSS;
Prior college college-level teaching at the undergraduate level with experience in web design, or UI/UX design.
Experience in using technology to enhance instruction and communicate effectively with the campus community.
